History - The Story

Lotus EliseIn 2004, Hyper Sport Engineering was formed as the design and fabrication arm of Hyper Sport Racing. Immediate goals included building a Lotus Esprit V8 for Grand-Am competition, as well as developing motorsport products and services for the Lotus Elise, only recently introduced in the US market. HE was successful in producing and homologating an SCCA T1 – legal version of the Lotus Elise.

  • 2005 – Hyper Sport began to campaign a Doran Daytona Prototype in the Grand-Am Rolex series
  • 2006 – Hyper Sport Engineering moves up the road to a new, separate facility
  • 2006 – 2007 Hyper Sport bought and campaigned two Ford FR500C Mustangs in the Grand-Am Kona series. This effort was successful immediately with excellent qualifying results and race finishes by Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell. 2006 saw HS lead the championship for most of the season, until a run of unfortunate incidents relegated the team to a second-place trophy at years-end. For the final race @ Miller Motorsports Park, Hyper Sport Racing campaigned its new Mazda RX8 in the Rolex race, finishing in the top-10. This new program will continue in 2008, beginning with the 24 Hours of Daytona.
  • 2007- Kirt Wightman becomes sole owner of Hyper Sport Engineering. He continues to be race engineer and technical director for Hyper Sport Racing.
